I am currently an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Durham University in the UK.

Prior to joining the Philosophy Department at Durham University, I was a Research Associate at the Climate Futures Initiative in Science, Values, and Policy at Princeton University administered by the High Meadows Environmental Institute and the University Center for Human Values. I also held a Research Fellow position at Harvard University in the Mahindra Humanities Center as part of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation research cohort on Migration and the Humanities.I earned my PhD in Philosophy from the University of California, Irvine in 2018 and my MA in Philosophy from San Francisco State University in 2012.

My areas of specialty are in political philosophy, ethics (normative and applied), international climate change policy, and environmental philosophy. Much of my work focuses on issues that intersect matters of climate justice and governance, immigration, climate adaptation, and social justice. A primary focus of my current research is on the normative and political governance challenges of “climate mobilities” including voluntary and forced immobility and migration, in-situ adaptation, external and internal displacement, refugee flows, managed retreat, and planned relocation that are influenced by climate variability as well as slow and rapid-onset climate impacts.

While my research is grounded in normative and political theorizing, I engage with and contribute to interdisciplinary research and teaching programs in the social sciences, law, and policy. I look forward to continuing to develop resources which engage a wide audience on important ethical, political, social, and policy matters regarding climate justice and environmental philosophy.

I currently serve as the Secretary Officer for the International Society for Environmental Ethics (ISEE) and I am a member of the Steering Committee for Philosophers for Sustainability. Additionally, along with Prof. Annie Stilz (University of California, Berkeley ), I am the co-director of the interdisciplinary Climate Mobilities Working Group. I also serve as the Faculty Lead for Arts and Humanities in Durham University's Centre for Sustainable Development Law & Policy

When I am not teaching, reading, or writing you will most likely find me adventuring outdoors with my dog Athena, surfing, teaching yoga, and playing Dungeons and Dragons (including completing a five year, long home-brewed campaign in which I played Amnon, a risk-taking Rogue).
