I have been an instructor of record since 2011 and I have mentored and taught undergraduate and graduate students at Durham University in the UK, in the University of California system, Princeton University, the California State University system, several California community colleges, as well as in various prisons in New Jersey where I co-developed and taught an accredited interndiscplinary climate and enviornmental justice course through the Prison Teaching Initative.
To effectively support the plurality of skills and to engage the experiential knowledge of my students, I take a student/learner-centered approach to teaching and learning, and I implement inclusive pedagogical practices and principles. By utilizing inclusive pedagogical practices, I aim to support students from marginalized groups in higher education. As a Pedagogical Fellow, I have designed and led numerous pedagogical workshops and trainings to support colleagues in adopting and utilizing such practices in and beyond the classroom. . Additionally I have co-organized conferences and have contributed to the development of resources for teaching in an inclusive and pluralistic way. You can find out more about such work on my Organizing page.
My approach to teaching recognizes that the conjunction of philosophical inquiry with other disciplines and methods develops students’ capabilities to engage in two modes of thought: critical and imaginative processes. My aim in developing courses that bring philosophical reasoning and experiential knowledge into interdiscplinary contexts is to help students to cutivate a range of tools to address pressing moral, environmental, and political challenges and to explore how interdiscplinary inquiry can and ought to develop. You can read more about my pedagogy and approach to teaching philosophy in my Teaching Statement.
I have taught a range of introductory and upper-division courses as well as graduate seminars. Some of my specialized topics courses include philosophy and politics of climate change, political philosophy, immigration, environmental philosophy and politics, bio/medical ethics, technology and society, and issues in contemporary moral issues. You can find the complete list of my courses on my CV. I have included some of my syllabi below and more are available upon request.
